It wasn’t as I would have wanted,
But then again what is?
Eventually each day comes into
Focus though with something of
A halo and memories fade.
What once was disappears
Into another country
And you make the most of the
Present even with toothaches,
Colds or cancer;
The milestones have mostly passed,
The false candles and the photographic
Evidence of bad haircuts, sloppy grins.
There is something comforting
About the demise of the constant crisis,
For how can there be crises if
There was no triggering incident
But only the usual aches, pains and unease?
This wasn’t the landing point
They promised us in the full flush
Of our expectation, when there
Was still time, and yet,
Considering the melting of the ice caps,
The exponential growth in our
Attendance at funerals, the random
Cruelty of shoppers and governments,
Instant Karma slipping down the charts
Etc etc, I guess, all things considered,
This will do.
